Hot pot is a traditional Chinese meal that the Mishkins spoke of often when they were visiting us in Eygalieres last September. They likened it to our crepe party compact dining event that we enjoyed frequently while in France including a meal with Larry, Jess and Evan while they were visiting. After moving back to Mt. Pleasant, the Mishkins wanted us to experience a hot pot meal so we were honored when they invited us last weekend to their home with some other Blackbaud friends, Jake and Charlotte. Apparently, Jess spent most of the day preparing for the meal which includes thinly sliced meats, leafy vegetables and a wide array of Chinese delectables. The pot is divided into two; one side is spicy broth and the other is non spicy. The pot is put in the middle of the table and then you cook your own meat, veggies, etc. in the broth! Initially, we were challenged with chopsticks and figuring out how to master the cooking process, but we prevailed and enjoyed a delicious meal. We tried new things (Kathleen ate a quail egg!), experienced new tastes and textures and loved experience a bit of the Chinese culture with such wonderful people!
